At first that might sound as a typical Ionian beach, however that is not the case. Xigia beach is the only one in Zakynthos and one of the few in Greece that show high Sulphur amp; Collagen concentration in the water, thus being a natural Sulphur spa. When swimming you may see the waters distinctive turbidity, as if there were something in the water that didnt totally dissolve. The water is naturally clean and pleasant, although a bit chilly, due to the cliffs and the depth of the ocean (only a few meters from the beach, the sea can be tens of meters deep). The Sulphur is gushing from a nearby cave and even though it has a distinctive and intense smell that it might prevent you from giving it a try, keep in mind that it has healing properties.
